As part of the Axis STEM academy we were assigned a project that focused on community. Our essential question that we focused on was what makes a community sustainable. To answer this question we were given one of the three locations our group was assigned Kaiser Park. We were then assigned into groups with about nine people where we chose a certain role to participate throughout this project as. There was two team leaders, two media and marketing members, and five industrial engineers. Depending on the role you had a different job where you contributed to the final prototype in different ways. We all worked together to brain storm ideas to find a solution. After sharing individual ideas, going through a design matrix, having input from teachers and other people, and learning how to improve on our original idea; we found a potential solution. We decide to create Extreme Tether-ball. Extreme Tether-ball is just like tether-ball but with two longitudinal poles connected by one horizontal pole. A tether-ball on a rope swings across the horizontal pole as two people hit it back and forth. Them the first person to wrap the ball around the other person's pole wins. We will place our Extreme Tether-ball court on the grass nearby the play ground at Kaiser Park. Our hope with this prototype is that it will influence interaction between people and encourage the building of community.
Essential questionThe essential question given to us was what makes a community sustainable? Our group decided to interpret this into how can we build community within a certain area?
